Proposal for Parker's typing goal this summer

Trina and Parker, what are your thoughts about this goal and the proposed rewards for the goal?

Overall goal: Make it through “Typer Island” using Typing Instructor for Kids so Parker can type 40 WPM at 95% accuracy using all letter and number keys by Labor Day 2011.

Intermediate goals:
-          30 minutes of practice 5 days per week (create Excel sheet to allow tracking)
-          Set target goal 2 WPM faster than last achievement to continue improving (include in Excel tracking sheet to show best WPM from session to show improvement, allow charting)

Rewards:
-          Meet intermediate goals (LED headlight and pocket knife)
-          Meet 40 WPM goal for letters and numbers (Night camping or in hotel)

  1. I'm thinking....40 wpm for a 10 year old is too much. I was thinking we should look closer to 20-25 wpm, see his progress half way through the summer and re-evaluate. Practice 4 days per week for 30 minutes and choose between the headlight and pocket knife. Leave one of those items for a later goal.

  2. Okay, 25 WPM should be fast enough to where Parker will be mostly looking at the screen rather than keyboard and should have a pretty good keyboarding skill set. I'll agree to that and at least 4 days per week.

Parker, do you want a nice knife or nice LED headlight?
